Institute presentation
Since it was established in 1834, SUNY Upstate Medical University has been a regional leader in education, research and the provision of high quality health care. The largest, most comprehensive university-connected research foundation in the United States, the Research Foundation of SUNY supports nearly $1 billion in SUNY research activity annually to SUNY faculty performing research in life sciences and medicine; engineering and nanotechnology; physical sciences and energy; social sciences, and computer and information sciences. The Departments of Psychiatry and Neuroscience of SUNY Upstate are internationally known for research in addictions, velo-cardio facial syndrome, child and adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, neuropsychiatric genetics and novel treatments for psychiatric disorders. The academic division includes the Colleges of Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine and Nursing. The University comprises 2504 faculty and 8195 employees (including 1120 research employees) located across 25 buildings on 30 acres. The University will provide the entire infrastructure required to accomplish the tasks in the project and to extend the project into novel directions based on the results obtained. This infrastructure includes office space, state of the art computer hardware and software, high throughput genotyping and sequencing, animal model facilities, iTRAQ proteomics and confocal microscopy. In our laboratory suite, we have access to eight high-end Pentium III systems in addition to a 3.4 GHz 3.0 MB RAM 1 TB storage Pentium III on a Raid-4 array, and a SUNBlade 2000 Unix workstation (dual 900 MHz processors, 2 GB RAM) controlling a 384 GB Raid-5 disk array. We also have a dual quad-core 4 MB RAM system for the purposes of computational and permutational analysis.
